Anthropic/SpaceX Colossus Deal Terms Disputed: Musk vs S-1
Conflicting characterizations of Anthropic's compute agreement with SpaceX's Colossus cluster have surfaced. Elon Musk describes the arrangement as "a 180-day lease with 90-day notice," implying a short-term, easily terminable deal. SpaceX's own S-1 filing, however, states that Anthropic "agreed to pay a monthly fee through May 2029" — a multi-year contractual commitment. The two accounts cannot both be accurate.
Why It Matters
The discrepancy matters for Anthropic's compute planning at a moment when its $65B raise signals massive infrastructure ambition. If the Colossus relationship is as terminable as Musk implies, Anthropic's near-term GPU access is more vulnerable to political tension with Musk than the S-1 language suggests.
