IREN Acquires Kubernetes Firm Mirantis for $625M to Monetize GPU Infrastructure
IREN, a Sydney-based AI data center operator, has agreed to acquire Mirantis — a Kubernetes management and cloud infrastructure software company — for $625 million in an all-stock transaction. The deal is designed to allow IREN to offer vertically integrated AI infrastructure: GPU data center capacity combined with Kubernetes-level orchestration software, rather than selling raw compute. Mirantis provides both Kubernetes management tooling and cloud-native application infrastructure across major enterprise clients.
Why It Matters
AI data center operators are moving up the software stack to capture more of the value chain from GPU infrastructure. Vertical integration at the orchestration layer is the clearest path to differentiation as raw GPU capacity becomes commoditized — and the $625M price signals how much operators are willing to pay to own that layer.
