OpenAI Codex Reaches 3M Users With Full Agent OS Architecture

OpenAI's Codex crossed 3 million weekly active users — tripling since January — on the day the company revealed its full agent OS architecture at AI Engineer 2026. Sam Altman declared it a "ChatGPT moment" for coding agents; Greg Brockman said Codex had replaced the terminal as his primary computer interface after two decades.
